One year ago today, under Peter Shumlin’s leadership, the legislature overrode Governor Douglas’ veto to enact marriage equality in Vermont. It was a proud moment for our state. That’s why I’m proud to support my friend Peter Shumlin in his bid for Governor and it’s why I’m writing to you today.
Make no mistake about it, had it not been for Peter’s commitment to passing a marriage bill in 2009 and his willingness to put himself on the line, same-sex couples would not be able to legally marry in Vermont today.
Peter has a track record of standing up for what he believes in and knows is in the best interests of Vermonters. He has never been afraid to do what is right or take the lead on difficult issues.
Vermont needs a governor with the vision and experience to move our state in a new direction. Vermont needs Peter Shumlin.
